Match Report: Halifax Friendly Lionesses 1-7 Queensbury Celtic Women

Queensbury Celtic Women produced a strong away performance to record a 7-1 victory against Halifax Friendly Lionesses, controlling large periods of the match and creating numerous scoring opportunities throughout.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead after four minutes when Lily Greenwood finished from close range after Jess Walker capitalised on a mistake during Halifax’s attempt to play out from the back.

Celtic continued to apply pressure and doubled their advantage on 18 minutes. Walker’s through ball found Greenwood, who finished confidently for her second goal of the afternoon. The lead was extended shortly afterwards when Katie Smith struck an excellent half-volley from an Isla Batty cross to make it 3-0.

The fourth goal followed before the break, with Jess Walker collecting a long pass from Jess Maurice, progressing into the box and finishing well after beating two defenders.

Halifax reduced the deficit before half-time when a low effort took an unfortunate bounce and found the corner of the net, leaving the score at 4-1 at the interval.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Queensbury continuing to create chances. Emily Lazenby added the fifth goal on 55 minutes after Isla Batty reacted quickest to keep an attack alive following an effort against the crossbar.

Lazenby struck again four minutes later, converting from close range after Lily Greenwood’s knockdown from a corner. Greenwood then completed her hat-trick on 73 minutes, finishing after Walker’s initial effort had been blocked.

Overall, it was a disciplined and effective performance from Queensbury Celtic Women, who combined attacking quality with a solid defensive display to secure a comprehensive away victory.
